What should I do before my first night’s sleep?

Ensure you have downloaded the S+ by ResMed app and use it to set up your account; making sure to answer all profile set up questions and tour the app with the S+ Guide. After, follow the on-screen instructions to pair your compatible smartphone or tablet to the S+ by ResMed unit.

If you have already set up a profile earlier but not paired your device to the S+, tapping the red S+ icon on the right of the screen will take you to the Bluetooth® pairing screen where you should follow the pairing instructions.

Using the S+ by ResMed app, check the breathing graph to ensure your smartphone is connected to the S+ by ResMed unit. You can see this graph once you connect your smartphone to your S+ by ResMed unit and the S+ icon on the right of the screen has turned green. Make sure no obstacles are between you and the S+ by ResMed unit. Answer the daily questions on the Pre-Sleep screen, then tap “Sleep” on the Sleep screen to start tracking your sleep.

Where should I place the unit?

Place the unit on a nightstand close to you. The S+ by ResMed unit must be positioned within 3.9 feet / 1.18 meters of you while you are sleeping. Ideally this should be about an arm length’s distance away from you. The unit should be angled forward, facing your chest. The bottom of the pod should be above the level of the mattress. This ensures the S+ by ResMed unit will capture your breathing rate correctly.

What is the unit's range?

The S+ by ResMed unit needs to be placed within 3.9 feet / 1.18 meters of your sleep location.

Does it matter how far the S+ by ResMed unit is from my bed?

Yes, the S+ by ResMed unit needs to be placed between 1.3 and 3.9 feet / 0.4 and 1.18 meters of you when you sleep. For best results, place it about an arm’s length away from where you will be lying in bed.

Do other items on my bedside table interfere with the unit?

Avoid placing items between yourself and the S+ by ResMed unit as this can generate inaccurate readings. This includes common bedside items such as a glass of water.

Can I place my phone on top of, leaning against, or in the base of the frame?

No, this is not recommended. It is best to leave your smartphone behind or beside the S+ by ResMed unit. Your smartphone should not be placed between you and the S+ by ResMed unit while you are sleeping.

Will my S+ by ResMed interfere with the TV/radio/cordless phone in my room?

No, your S+ by ResMed unit will not interfere with the TV, radio, or cordless phone in your bedroom.

Will air conditioning or an electric fan interfere with the device?

Using objects with moving parts, such as an electric fan, in the vicinity of the S+ by ResMed unit may impair its performance. To ensure minimal interference, keep objects with moving parts more than 3.9 feet / 1.18 meters away from the S+ by ResMed unit. Electric fans are best placed to the side, back and above the unit, not in between you and the unit.

Will other electrical devices interfere with my S+ by ResMed unit?

Placing your smartphone in between you and your S+ by ResMed unit while you are sleeping can interfere with the sensors. Before you start tracking your sleep, place your smartphone behind or beside the S+ by ResMed unit.

Will my S+ by ResMed work if I sleep with an electric blanket?

Yes, electric blankets have not been found to alter data captured by S+ by ResMed.

How do I pair the S+ by ResMed unit to my smartphone for the first time?

First, make sure that both Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi are switched on your smartphone. Download the S+ by ResMed app from the Apple® App Store and the Google Play™ store. To locate the app at the store, simply search for “S+ by ResMed.” After download is complete, open the app. Follow the registration process and take the app tour, the “S+ Guide.” Connect the S+ to a power outlet. With the app open, tap on “Connect your S+.” You’ll see a list of available Bluetooth® devices. From this list, select “S+ by ResMed” and pair within one minute of plugging in the S+. A steady green LED light on the pod indicates that you have paired successfully.

Can my bed partner and I both use the same unit?

Yes, the same S+ by ResMed unit can be shared with more than one person, but can only capture information for one person at a time. We recommend that each user creates and tracks their sleep through their own individual account so that the S+ Mentor feedback can be tailored to each user’s specific sleep information and needs. The S+ unit needs to be placed on the side of the bed next to the person who it is tracking as it reads the person who is closest to it.

Will S+ by ResMed measure my sleep accurately if I am sharing a bed?

Yes. The S+ by ResMed is able to distinguish between two people in a bed and smart enough to measure the sleep pattern and body movements of only the person closest to the S+ by ResMed unit.

Can two S+ by ResMed units be used in the same room at the same time?

Currently, two units cannot be used in the room at the same time as they will interfere with each other and produce misleading results.

We have more than one S+ by ResMed unit in our home. How do I ensure I pair my smartphone or tablet to the correct unit the first time round?

When you are pairing your smartphone to your unit for the first time, please ensure that all units are switched off. Next, power up only your specific unit – this means that only your unit and its unique identifier code (“mac address”) will be visible on the Bluetooth® pairing screen on the app. Remember to pair your smartphone to the S+ by ResMed unit within one minute of powering the unit up and to use the app to do this.

Are there conditions that may prevent the unit from working?

By keeping the unit in a dry environment and following the instructions in the User Manual, the unit should work when it is connected to a power source. For proper functioning, storage conditions should be within 5°C to 35°F 41°F to 95°F, and 30% to 85% relative humidity.

Do I have to keep my S+ by ResMed unit plugged in all day, or can I just plug it in when I go to bed?

The S+ by ResMed unit only needs to be plugged in when you are tracking your sleep. However, the unit uses very little power compared to most household appliances. Leaving the unit plugged in facilitates a faster reconnection process via Bluetooth®.

Do I need to charge my smartphone while using S+ by ResMed?

We recommend charging your smart phone while tracking your sleep, to avoid your smartphone’s battery running out of power. There is a second USB outlet in the power supply unit that you can use to charge your phone, with your phone’s own power supply cable.

Do I need to use the same smartphone to monitor every sleep session?

No you can vary the smart device, all you need to do is download the S+ by ResMed app to any compatible smartphone/tablet and login using the email and password associated with your account. Then use the app to pair the device you wish to use with the S+ by ResMed unit.

When in range, your S+ by ResMed unit may automatically re-connect with the last device it was connected to. Therefore if you change smart device, ensure Bluetooth® is turned off on the device you do not wish to use.

How do I know if my smartphone is connected to my S+ by ResMed unit?

You can check this out on any page of the application. The top right corner of the app displays the S+ by ResMed unit icon. The icon will either be red or green, indicating whether the S+ by ResMed unit is connected or not. A green icon indicates that the S+ by ResMed unit is connected to your smartphone. If the icon is red, your S+ by ResMed unit is not connected to your smartphone.

What does the LED light on the pod tell me?

The front-left LED light will, at different times will be green, yellow, red, or off. This light communicates the status and activity of the S+ by ResMed unit as well as its connection to your smartphone:

  • A flashing red light means the S+ by ResMed unit is not paired to a smartphone.
  • A steady red light means Bluetooth® is not paired or the smartphone is out of range of the S+ by ResMed unit.
  • A flashing green light means S+ is in sleep-monitoring mode. This light will fade out 15 seconds after beginning sleep-monitoring mode.
  • A steady green light means S+ is paired and ready to begin sleep monitoring when you wish to do so.
  • A steady yellow light indicates a firmware upgrade is taking place.

Does the S+ by ResMed unit start automatically when I get into bed?

No. You must tap Sleep on the Sleep screen for sleep tracking to begin. First, though, make sure your S+ is correctly set up and connected to your smartphone.

Does the S+ by ResMed unit automatically turn off when I get up?

No. S+ by ResMed will keep going until you stop tracking your sleep, up to a limit of 14 hours.

Can I use this device with a waterbed?

No, waterbeds are not compatible with S+ by ResMed as they will generate inaccurate readings by the S+ by ResMed unit.
